| My Favorite Cars |
Our cars had
names like Road Master, Imperial, and
Skyliner,
"Classics", flying down our neon
highways of the 50's, 60's and 70's.
|
This classic is the Ferrari
308
GTS, 1975 - 1985.
You may remember it from the TV show “Magnum P.I.”

|

Lamborghini
Miura, 1966 - 1972. The name comes from a breed of
Spanish
fighting bulls. The V12 is like nothing you ever heard, while
the
body is sexy, curvy, and sleek with big flirty eyes
(headlights).
The Italians know the "S" curve that copy's a woman's figure, is
unmatched in design and appeal.
My Favorite.

Lamborghini
LM
built from 1986 - 1993.
There were only 301 vehicles produced.
The design for the LM was inspired by the Cheetah.
Which was inspired by the XR311. Note that the Cheetah also
inspired the very popular
Hummer. |

This is the Iso Grifo built from
1963 - 1974. This sexy Italian
body came with a lot of muscle under that assaulting hood. An
American
V8.
 |

1971 Plymouth Cuda, 1970 - 1974
My
2nd favorite car! I owned Cuda's when Cuda's weren't cool.
For only $500 and a tune up in
my barn, I discovered the world of Pistol
Grip 4 speeds and mod colors. You can't help but fall in love
with the car's
looks, performance packages,
and an endless arry of factory options to
fit your personality.

1969
Shelby GT 500 convertible is classic muscle car.
With an
impressive
Carroll Shelby roll bar and a distinctive front end, this Mustang
stands out.
 |

Sleek and Beautiful!
The
1957 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer
convertible,
came with dual whip antenna and a hemi motor. A head turner for sure!

The
T-Rex was built in 2000 by the Coggiola Design Firm in Italy.
This
brilliantly designed, one off vehicle was built over the massive Hummer
H1 chassis. The size of the vehicle in the photo is quite
deceiving, but at 17.7 feet long and 7 feet tall at the rear of the
vehicle, it shows what can be done by a great design studio.
 |
Maserati Merak, 1972 - 1982
A "dream car" in its own right with classic lines, but like many, a mechanical nightmare to own.

 |
 |

Firebird
1970 - 1981 (Second generation)
Magnum
PI had his 308, but Jim Rockford had his Firebird. I like to think of
the Trans
Am as an " American " Ferrari.
New regulations
however, required rubber bumpers that turned
off collectors. Today a 1979, with a dependable 403
(19
mpg), turbo 400 trans, T-top, turbo wheels in silver w/grey Int. can be
bought for a song.

What
is a
muscle car?
While a sports car can be defined as
a performance motor & suspension with a big price tag,
a
muscle can be defined as a mid size car paired with a larger
motor and an affordable price tag. It
started with the 1949 Old's 88 and with the 1964 GTO.
High impact colors ruled in the 60's and 70's.
Just like sleek fins revamped the factory line up for 1957, the new
styling for
1970 epitomized the muscle car at
a working mans price. Colors
like Plum Crazy mirrored a burst
of ingenuity and the playfulness growing in America.
In the 80's a Cuda or Challenger could be
had for $500. But with a Brady
Bunch generation coming into their own, theses
colorfully honest performance heros have
become hoarded by collectors.
End of the muscle car.
440 6 pacs, Hemis, and rock crushing 4 speeds, ended in 1971.
Smog pumps and emission regulations now ruled, making 1972
and later cars less desirable.
